The next PC you buy may very well be able to support 5G, and you’ll likely be able to purchase the laptop from where you bought your new smartphone. Qualcomm recently announced that major mobile carriers like Sprint and Verizon will be offering PCs with built-in 5G support by the end of this year once the emerging network gets a better footing.
What is 5G technology?
5G technology represents the fifth generation of mobile networks. A 5G network doesn’t just interconnect people but also helps connect and control objects, machines, and devices. The full effect of 5G technology is expected to be realized by the year 2035.
Carriers that will offer 5G laptops
In the United States, 5G laptops are likely to only be sold by Verizon and Sprint. In Europe, carriers like Swisscom, EE, and Telefonica will be offering 5G-enabled laptops to residents. A number of providers in Africa, Australia, the Middle East, and Asia have signed up to sell 5G laptops as well.
Upcoming 5G laptops
Some of the upcoming laptops that will support 5G are the Dell Latitude 9510, Lenovo Yoga 5G, and the HP Elite Dragonfly G2.
- Dell Latitude 9510: The Dell Latitude 9510 two-in-one and laptop are both extremely light devices. They have a 15-inch full HD display, 30-hour long battery life, and offer an optional 5G service along with WiFi 6. The laptop will be sold by the company for a starting price of $1,799.
- Lenovo Yoga 5G: The Lenovo Yoga 5G is expected to be the first laptop to run on 5G if it arrives when expected. The laptop will be known as the Flex 5G in the United States and will be offered at a price starting at $1,499. The laptop offers a battery life of 24 hours, a 400-nit display, and a 14-inch screen.
