You always notice when you walk into a room that feels calm, relaxed, and happy. Yet, this might have more to do with the spacing of your furniture than the furniture itself. So, check out some of our favorite tips and tricks to achieve this with the furniture you already own.
Sofa to Coffee Table – 14-18 Inches
When you want enough space to set your drinks down, prop up your feet, or reach the coffee table, that’s the ideal distance to have on both sides.
Living Room Seating Distance – Over 30 – 36 Inches
The ideal amount of space to help intimate conversation while giving you an open feel is anywhere above the three feet up to a maximum of about 8 to 10 feet.
Dining Table and Furniture 36 Inches
In the best situation, you should have enough space between your dining table and a piece of furniture like a buffet table or a bar cart. This will allow enough room for anyone to walk behind chairs while others are seated comfortably. Otherwise, opening a drawer or cabinet disrupts the whole setting and possibly the meal.
Bed and Side Table – 3 Inches
There is value in leaving a little gap between these two pieces of furniture so often crammed together. It not only avoids the crowded look but also keeps the bedside table and all on it within easy reach.
Edge of Bed and Side of The Rug – 12-18 Inches
Sure we all like to wake up to a warm rug underfoot, but make sure it’s proportional to the size of your bed. It should extend out at least 12 inches for a full / twin-sized bed and about 18 inches for a king / queen-sized bed.
If you’d rather have rugs on either side of your bed, make sure they cover at least 75 percent of the space from the end of the bedside table to the foot of the bed. A pair of runners could work best here.
Creating just the right amount of gap in between all your pieces is essential if you want the right vibe for your home. Go ahead and give it a shot!
